Former Eagles HC Doug Pederson Surprisingly Offers Advice to Nick Sirianni
Being the head coach of any team in the NFL has its challenges. But being the leading person in charge of the Philadelphia Eagles is an entirely different story.
It’s not due to the history of the organization but rather the rabid fanbase that tends to make life tough. For Nick Sirianni, it’s been a whirlwind of emotions since he was hired.
Sirianni led the Eagles to the Super Bowl two years ago but the team has since underperformed and it has seen the fanbase turn on him. Nobody understands this better than former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson and he led Philadelphia to a Super Bowl title.
Pederson, now the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, offered some advice for Sirianni ahead of the Eagles showdown with Jacksonville this weekend.
“From the outside looking in, I think he’s handled it well,” Pederson said. “My advice is you’ve just kind of got to keep going every single day, man. You’ve just got to keep your head down, plowing forward, just do your job. Get your team ready to go for another game. And you know, you can’t control anything other than that as a head coach.
Sirianni has done a decent job with the Eagles but it’s all about winning for Philadelphia. He is 39-19 over three and a half years with the organization. Every little move and decision that he makes gets scrutinized more so and it can weigh on a person at times.
“It’s a tough business,” Pederson said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “Just to be a resource, you know, just to be somebody there. I did it for five years and I was an assistant coach there for a long time and really just to be there if he had any questions he could just ask me. It’s just a respect thing. It’s hard enough to be a head coach in this league. Any advice I could give a first-time head coach, I was going to do it.”
Despite all the issues this season, the Eagles do own a record of 5-2 on the year. It’s been a strange season but one that has Philadelphia toward the top of the NFC.
However, getting to the postseason isn’t the issue for this team. It’s all about what they do once they get there.
Sirianni knows what the goals are and he will do what he can to bring Philadelphia another title. But for now, this matchup with Pederson and the Jaguars is his priority.
